Profile Of New NCDC Director-General Adetifa

Dr. Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Shehu said Adetifa will replace Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who was recently appointed as an Assistant Director at the World Health Organization (WHO).

Profile of new NCDC DG Adetifa

Dr Adetifa is a trained paediatrician and infectious diseases epidemiologist.

He got his first degree from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)in Kwara state and completed his residency training in Paediatrics at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.

After completing his residency, Dr Adetifa was awarded the Fellowship of the West Africa College of Physicians in Paediatrics in 2005.

The new NCDC boss completed his Masters in Epidemiology and got his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Until his appointment, Dr Adetifa was an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The new NCDC boss was awarded the MRC/DFID African Research Leader Fellowship in 2018

He is also a member of the Kenyan National Immunisation Coordinating Committee and a member of the World Health Organisation, Africa Region’s (WHO-AFRO) Regional Immunisation Technical Advisory Group.
