BREAKING: President Buhari Appoints New Minister

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The appointment was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the senior special assistant to the President on media and publicity, Garba Shehu.

Adetifa will be replacing Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu who will be resuming an international appointment with the World Health Organization (WHO) in November this year.

As earlier reported by Naija News, Chikwe Ihekweazu has been appointed as an Assistant Director at the World Health Organization (WHO).

Specifically, Ihekweazu is set to resume as the new Assistant Director-General of Health Emergency Intelligence at the WHO and will have his main office located in Berlin, Germany.

According to a letter signed by the WHO Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, Ihekweazu is expected to resume his new post on November 1, 2021.

Before his latest appointment, the Nigerian had led several short-term engagements for WHO, mainly in response to major infectious disease outbreaks around the world.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has read for the second time a bill on open grazing and the Value Added Tax bill.

Naija News reports that the Assembly on Monday committed the bill on open grazing to the committee on agriculture, while the bill on VAT was sent to the committee on finance.

This was made known in a statement by Eromosele Ebhomele, the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos Assembly Speaker.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, described the ‘Prohibition of Open Cattle Grazing Bill’ as timely and one that would ensure harmonious relationships between herders and farmers and protect the environment of the state and the southwest zone.

He also suggested that the bill should make provision for the registration of herders and prepare them for ranching.
