A nine-year-old girl was shot dead by soldiers in Gwanki District of Makarfi Local Government Area of ​​Kaduna State at a polling booth.

Naija News learnt that the girl, Zainab Bala, lost her life when the soldiers invited by a former chairman of the Makarfi local government who is also the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the election shot at a crowd protesting against malfunctioning of a voting machine.

According to an eyewitness, the former LGA chairman had come to a polling station in Fadamar Gwanki due to the suspension of the voting machine.

The youths present at the polling booth seeing the candidate talking to election officials, shouted ‘We don’t want to, we don’t want to’.

He said he had called for the army to disperse the protesters, and a bullet struck the girl, killing her instantly.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said they would arrest the candidate because the law did not allow the military to go to the polls.

We will give you the details as soon as we arrest the suspects,” Jalige said.
