Resolve Dispute With Resident Doctors Within 21 Days – NMA Warns FG

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has warned the federal government to resolve all dispute with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and others within 21 days.

Naija News reports that the NMA gave the warning after its National Executive Council meeting of the association in Edo State to discuss the current impasse between the government and resident doctors.

A statement by the NMA President, Prof Innocent Ujah, the group asked the government to fully resolve all the issues contained in the various agreements signed with its affiliate members.

This newspaper reports that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government currently has issues with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCAN, NARD and the Medical and Dental Specialist Association in Basic Medical Sciences, MEDSABAMS.

After reviewing the various industrial disputes involving the different it’s affiliates, NMA warned that no doctor should be victimized for participating or not participating in the industrial action by resident doctors.

The group backed all its affiliates’ move to improve the Healthcare Delivery in Nigeria and the welfare of her members.

In the event that the FG fails to implement the agreements after the expiration of the 21- days notice, NMA shall summon an emergency delegate meeting to review the progress made on the implementation of the agreements,” the statement read.
