Veteran Musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo Is Dead

Legendary Nigerian entertainer, highlife singer and guitarist, Sir Victor Uwaifo is dead.

Naija News understands the veteran musician and Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Benin died on Saturday after a brief illness at the age of 80.

His passing away was confirmed in a Facebook post on Saturday evening by one of his children, Uwaifo Peter de Rock who wrote: “Daddy whyyyyyyyyyy. Did you leave us now Prof  sir Victor UWAIFO has gone to rest. Black Saturday for me nooow.”

“One week now after collaborating with me.” Peter added.

Born March 1, 1941, Uwaifo who hails from Benin City in Edo State is known for his prowess in handling musical instruments such as guitar, flute, and saxophone.

The celebrated musician was also awarded the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 1983 for his contributions to the entertainment industry.

The music legend will also be remembered as the first Honorable Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Tourism in Nigeria.

He is also a highly educated individual holding a B.A Honors (first-class valedictorian), Masters degree, and Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture, (University of Benin, Nigeria).

Meanwhile, the funeral service for the late Nollywood veteran actress, Rachel Oniga was held on Friday, 27th August, 2021 in Lagos State.

Born on 23 May 1957 in Ebutte Metta, Lagos State, the screen goddess died on Friday 30th July, 2021 at the age of 64 from complications involving a heart disease problem.
