The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been identified as the best successor to President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) group, Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG), said it is convinced that the VP, with his vast experience, is fit to succeed his principal to continue the good work they have both started.

Naija News understands that Osinbajo received the backing of the APC group when they paid a courtesy visit to the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, at the Government House on Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the group, PCG coordinator, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, said they are in the state to consult and to tap from the wealth of experience of the Katsina governor in their bid to see that Osinbajo continues with Buhari’s good legacy.

PCG insisted that with Osinbajo as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, calmness, unity and stability is assured for the nation. Mohammed noted that their choice of Katsina State as the first point of call for the agitation was because it is the home of the president.

The group however stressed that they were not hired by Vice President Osinbajo but their agitation is borne out of a passion to ensure the party gets things right by producing the very best choice for the party come 2023.

While responding to the PCG delegates, Governor Masari stated that what is needful for the party at the moment is to ensure that all hands are on deck to see that the party emerges victorious in 2023. He also advised them to primarily make their intention known at the national level of the party.

Earlier, PCG said: “We started our awareness in the area of good governance in March 2019, with a collective resolve to promote our great party, APC, to ensure that our party again produces the next President come 2023.

“Looking at the extant developmental challenges that the Country is contending with, it is only wise for the Party to choose a most qualified and most acceptable candidate to sustain and improve on the positive gains, achievements and legacies of President Muhammadu Buhari

“It is given this development that we at the PCG feel convinced that an Osinbajo Presidency come 2023 will bring down tension,
facilitate unity and stability as well as accelerate further progress in all sectors of the economy

“Therefore, we are here before you to seek your support, wise counsel and advice towards accelerating the possibilities of collective success

“Looking at his experience, capacity, above all, the need for our party, APC and Nigeria to ensure focused continuity in power, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will make a great leader fly our party and national flags very high.

“Prof Yemi Osinbajo is very ably qualified to continue the policies and programmes of President Buhari, beyond 2023.

“This is our conviction and we firmly believe that collectively, all parts of the country should join us on this mission of fielding the best among us come 2023 for a greater Nigeria in line with the dreams of our founding fathers and the aspirations of our people.

“We feel it is time to start consulting with major stakeholders in the party to get it right in good time, and this is why we choose Katsina as a first point of the state’s visit.

“Another reason is that we want to tap into your wisdom as one of the most senior stakeholders in our party and as former Speaker of House of Representatives and founding member of the APC and most importantly, Katsina State is President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state deserves special recognition in all respects.

“Finally, we wish to state very clearly that we are only exercising our civic responsibility as Nigerians and as APC members, we are not sent by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, neither speaking for him. We only feel that we are obligated as members of the ruling Party to champion a cause we believe is in the best interest of Nigerians,” Ahmed noted.
