Abductors Kill Former Local Govt Chairman In Benue State

Not less than eleven persons have been shot dead in a fresh attack by bandit terrorists on a village in Katsina State.

Naija News gathered the bandits late on Thursday night around 11.30pm, stormed Dan-Kumeji village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, and started shooting sporadically.

As the villagers tried to escape into the bush, they, unfortunately, ran into an ambush set up by the attackers who opened fire on them.

Apart from those killed, six persons who sustained injuries during the attack, have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

“When our people saw them, they started running for safety, not knowing that some of the attackers laid ambush in strategic positions. They just pounced out and started shooting those trying to escape the attack,” a resident, Abdulmumini Sani, told Daily Trust in a telephone interview.

The bodies of those shot dead during the attack are set for burial, he added.

As at the time of filing this report, the Katsina Police Command was yet to confirm the incident.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Friday, lamented the spate of terror attacks targeted at Christians in the country and described the Church as being under a siege in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that CAN’s Assistant General Secretary, Elder Biodun Sanyaolu, said this at a press briefing in Abuja to mark the 45th anniversary of the apex Christian body in the country.

While lamenting that the fate of many Nigerians who have suffered various forms of persecution on account of their Christian faith, he said it was reprehensible that security agencies have been unable to stop the targeted attacks.

CAN also claimed that attempts were being made by some external forces to hijack its leadership and destabilize the religious body.
