‘Buhari Government Is Weak’ – CAN Reacts To Jos Killings

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to the massacre of 35 people in Yelwa Zangam village in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Naija News had reported how bandits attacked the village in the early hours of Wednesday, burned some family members alive and shot at others.

The gunmen reportedly disabled the bridge leading to the community, preventing any access to help before launching an assault on the residents.

In an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Vice-President of CAN (Northern region), Rev Joseph Hayab, berated the Federal Government for failing to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.

Hayab stated that the killing of 35 persons showed that the government is weak and cannot tackle the lingering security challenges facing the country.

The CAN official added that the Jos killings indicated President Muhammadu Buhari has been sleeping for too long.

Meanwhile, angry youths dumped over 20 corpses of the victims at the main gate of Plateau State Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos.

The youth had stormed the mortuary of the Plateau General Hospital to pick up the corpses and moved them to the State House of Assembly before moving to the State House.

The angry youths who took the street on Wednesday called for justice as security agents prevented them from accessing the governor.

Following the protest, Governor Simon Lalong has re-imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area.

Lalong, in a statement by his spokesman, Makut Simon Macham, said the curfew begins from 4 pm on Wednesday and will remain in place subject to further review by the State Security Council.

The governor said he took the step to forestall threats to lives and properties within the local government.
