The Kebbi State House of Assembly on Tuesday, August 24, impeached the Speaker of the House, Hon. Ismaila Abdulmummuni Kamba, and his deputy, Muhammadu Buhari Aliyu.

Naija News reports that Kamba and Aliyu were impeached during a closed-door plenary session in the Assembly on Tuesday by 20 out of the 24 members of the assembly.

The assembly immediately swore in Muhammad Abubakar Lolo as the new speaker, while Mohammaed Usman Zuru was elected as the new deputy speaker.

The Chairman House Committee on Information and Culture, Muhammad Tukur, made their impeachment known to reporters after the plenary session.

Tukur said both Kamba and Aliyu were removed from office because the assembly only wanted to effect a change of leadership.

He denied reports that the executive arm of government influenced their action, stating that the decision was a popular one.

He said: “21 out of the 24 of us signed for the impeachment. Nobody influenced our decision, those that signed are the members responsible for the removal of the former speaker and his deputy.”

“We did not change the former principal officers of the assembly because they were found wanting but we only we wanted to effect change in leadership.”
