Amotekun Denies Killing Teenager In Ibadan

The Oyo State Command of the Western Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun has denied its involvement in the killing of a teenager in Ibadan, the state capital.

Recall that some Amotekun corps allegedly shot dead a 15-year old boy along the Agodi Secretariat Road on Wednesday, August 18.

Following the sad incident, an angry mob in the area trooped out to protest the killing of the boy, demanding that the culprits be brought to justice.

But speaking with reporters in Ibadan, the commandant of the Oyo state Amotekun corps, Olayinka Olayanju, denied reports that any of his operatives was involved in the killing of the young boy.

Olayanju noted that the allegation was an attempt to discredit the efforts of the security outfit in combating crimes in the state.

He noted that those accusing the security agency are those who were not allowed to carry out their nefarious activities in the area.

The Amotekun commandant also noted that possibilities are high that it could be a calculated attempt by political opponents in the state to damage the reputation of the present government.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory has said there is no kidnapping in any part of the nation’s capital, warning against the circulation of fake news.

It made the declaration on Wednesday while reacting to a report making waves on social media that a chef got kidnapped close to Mopol 45, along Deidei-Zuba axis of Abuja.

The Command, in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maryam Yusuf said the report was fake as the command did not record any case of kidnapping in that part of Abuja in the recent past.

β€œThe command wants to state categorically that there is no record of such incident on Tuesday in the FCT,” the statement partly reads.

Yusuf, therefore, cautioned against the circulation of fake news that could cause undue panic among residents of the FCT.
