The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has raised an alarm over the rampant cases of road accidents among night travelers in Nigeria.

Motorists are said to prefer traveling in the night due to evade the daytime enforcement of traffic laws by the personnel of the FRSC across the country.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, said the last three months had not been pleasant to the corps because all the fatal accidents recorded in the country occurred in the night.

Oyeyemi said this on Tuesday at the capacity building workshop and implementation of the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy II, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He said, “All the fatal road accidents we have been recording occurred between 1 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. and they are seriously alarming. The most recent is at Okene around 3 a.m. in which an articulated vehicle, carrying 50 people on top of its articles had an accident.

“However, what I am saying now is that road accidents with heavy fatality occur at night and l had already made representations to the federal government.”

But he said that the corps had also leveraged inter-agency cooperation with the police, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and the Federal Ministries of Works and Transportation for the management and safety of roads around the country.

As such, he urged all sister agencies to continue supporting the corps in ensuring safety of lives and property in the country.
