Former Nigerian lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has warned that Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari’s recent comment about bandits in his state is ‘war’ inciting.

Naija News reports that Masari on Tuesday told Katsina citizens to take up arms against bandits attacking their communities.

Worried about incessant kidnapping, killings and demand for ransom in Katsina, Masari who paid condolence to families of 10 persons killed after being hit by a Nigerian Custom vehicle, said it’s time to take arms against bandits.

Katsina among other states in the northern region of the country has been faced with security threats for some time now.

The assailants come in and out at will, kidnap and demand unaffordable ransom from the government and families of the abducted persons.

In May 2021, gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted 15 traders travelling in a commercial vehicle along Tsaskiya-Ummadau road in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Also in June, scores of armed bandits on motorbikes after the Juma’at prayers, blocked Jibiya-Batsari road in Kabobi village, Katsina State and made away with 11 passengers.

Reacting to the disturbing situations, Masari asked citizens to practice self-defence.

However, the 8th Assembly senator, Shehu Sani in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday cautioned Masari to be mindful of statements that would turn kidnappers against residents of the state.

Using Benue governor, Samuel Ortom and TY Danjuma as his reference point, the former senator noted that the two leaders said the same thing earlier, but it turned against them.

Shehu Sani wrote: “The Katsina Governor has reportedly called on his people to rise in arms against the bandits and open declaration and admission that those saddled with the security responsibilities have failed:

“The last time Benue Governor and TY Danjuma said the same thing, some went hard on them.” He added.
