Boko Haram: President Buhari To Meet Service Chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday, 19th August hold a security meeting with the nation’s service chiefs and heads of security agencies.

This was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by the President’s spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu which noted that the meeting will hold at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

By Thursday, President Buhari will have emerged from the COVID-19 self-isolation which began after he returned last week Friday from the United Kingdom where he participated in an education summit and also saw his doctors.

According to Shehu, Buhari will receive briefings from the security chiefs on the activities of the military and security agencies in tackling terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and all other criminals in the country.

The statement on the security meeting reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday confer with security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“The President returned to Abuja last Friday after 18 days in London, during which he attended an education summit and did health checks.

“The security forces have in the past few weeks taken the battle more robustly to insurgents, bandits, and all other criminals troubling the country, and they are now surrendering in droves.

“The President will be brought up to speed on developments at the Thursday meeting, while plans to bring a decisive end to the challenges will be formulated.”

Meanwhile, more details have been released by the Nigerian Army on members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) who surrendered this month.

In a statement to newsmen on Monday, Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Public Relations, said scores of terrorists surrendered to troops between 2 and 4 August, 2021.

According to the army spokesperson, the withdrawal of top commanders and fighters has depleted the strength and fighting efficiency of jihad groups.

Nwachukwu confirmed that a total of 186, comprising 67 adult males, 54 adult females and 65 children surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ajiri.

Led by their Amir, Manye Aga, they submitted several AK 47 rifles, magazines, a locally made pistol and 8 locally fabricated daggers.
