Plateau Killings: IGP Deploys Helicopter, CTU As 13 More Suspects Are Arrested

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has approved the deployment of a surveillance helicopter to Plateau State to support security efforts.

Apart from the surveillance helicopter, Naija News reports that (2) Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) and two (2) Cells of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) were also deployed to ensure peace and calm is restored.

The deployments were confirmed in a statement on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.

The fresh deployments are targeted at restoring peace in the state following the attack by bandits on Saturday which resulted in the killing of at least 22 innocent travellers while many were injured and others missing.

Giving a further update on the situation, Mba disclosed on Monday that 13 more suspects have been arrested by the Police, bringing the total number of arrests on the matter to 33.

According to the Force PRO, “As part of ongoing, coordinated efforts at restoring public order in Rukuba and its environs, following the unfortunate incident of Saturday 14th, August, 2021, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc has ordered the deployment of additional operational asset including a Police Surveillance Helicopter, two (2) Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) and two (2) Cells of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) to Plateau State.”

“The surveillance helicopter, manned by operatives of Nigeria Police Airwing, is expected to carry out aerial surveillance and confidence-boosting patrols within the hotspots, in coordinated operations with the ground troops.”

“The IGP noted that thirteen (13) additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, bringing the total number of arrested persons to thirty-three (33).”

“He assured that the NPF is committed to working with other patriotic stakeholders toward restoring public order in Plateau and other parts of the country.”

“Meanwhile, the Head of the Police Intervention Team (PIT), DIG Sanusi N. Lemu, mni, is already on ground in Plateau, coordinating Police investigative, operational and peace-building response.”

Meanwhile, gunmen have killed four workers of Lee Engineering Company in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the oil workers were attacked on Monday on the way to their Work place in Assa Community.

Four persons died instantly while many others sustained injuries.
