1. We Didn’t Release Two Senior Boko Haram Bomb Experts – Army

The Nigerian Army has refuted reports that it has released two Boko Haram bomb experts from its custody.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by its spokesman, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army noted that the suspected terrorists have not yet been released.

Nwachukwu added that all surrendered terrorists will be received, processed and passed on to the relevant agencies of Government for further assessment in line with extant provisions.

The Nigerian Army, however, advised the general public to disregard the report and continue to support the army in order to rid the country of terrorism and other forms of insecurity.”

2. PDP Resolves Leadership Crisis As Party Fixes Convention For October

The warring parties within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which are at one another’s throats over the continued leadership of the party by the embattled national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, have resolved their disagreements.

The groups in resolving the crisis, reconciled their differences, and agreed to form a formidable force, Naija News authoritatively reports.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal announced the resolution of the crisis while briefing reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, shortly after a two-hour meeting of the party’s stakeholders.

Those present at the meeting to resolve the PDP crisis include 13 governors, the Board of Trustees members, Uche Secondus, and representatives of other organs of the party.

According to Tambuwal, part of the resolutions at the meeting was the bringing forward of the party’s national convention from December to October as an overt gesture to placate the group agitating for the immediate removal of Secondus.

3. Seriake Dickson Released, Reveals Why EFCC Grilled Him For Several Hours

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has been released by the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former Governor, who is the current senator representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly was questioned by the EFCC in Abuja for several hours on Tuesday, Naija News earlier reported.

Speaking after he emerged from the interrogation with the EFCC, Dickson has explained why he was questioned by the agency.

According to him, he received an invitation from the EFCC over some issues which needed to be clarified concerning the asset declaration of an alleged NGO.

He said though he couldn’t honour the EFCC invitation immediately, he rescheduled the appointment with them which was what he honoured on Tuesday.

Dickson added that the assets for which he was facing questioning were those he incorporated and managed for his family even before he became a governor.

He however said some people were attempting to blackmail him with the investment details, adding that the allegations against him are frivolous.

4. APC Suspends Chieftain For Praying For Buhari’s Death

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended its caretaker chairman in Yola South, Suleiman Adamu, for praying for President Muhammadu’s death.

Naija News reports that an audio clip of Adamu reportedly wishing that Coronavirus kills the President and pledging allegiance to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has surfaced online.

Reacting to the audio clip, the Adamawa chapter of the party condemned Adamu for praying for the president’s death and as such relieved Adamu of his duties.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by the spokesman of the party in the state, Mohammed Abdullahi, disclosed that the APC Local Government Vice Chairman, Adamu Majekano, has been mandated to take over as Acting Chairman, Yola South.

5. Indonesia Apologizes To Nigeria After Assaulting Diplomat

The Indonesian government has apologized over an assault on a Nigerian Diplomatic Officer by Immigration officials on Saturday, August 7th.

The Nigeria Foreign Ministry on Tuesday described the incident as unfortunate, adding that Indonesian immigration officials have apologized to the victim.

The ministry further said, “The Ambassador of Nigeria to Indonesia has confirmed that the immigration official involved had since come to the Nigerian Embassy to apologize to the Ambassador and the diplomat concerned.”

6. Ohanaeze Joins Arewa Youths To Call For #BBNaija Ban

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has called on the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to ban reality show Big Brother Naija.

Speaking on Tuesday, the National President of the OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka described the reality show as semi-packaged porn and social monster.

He told DailyPost that #BBNaija is affecting families across the nation.

According to him, Nigerian youths have lost the sense of societal values and norms and the reality show won’t help.

7. 2023: Igbos Should Convince Nigeria On Succeeding Buhari – Obi

Former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has asked the South Easterners to convince other regions why an Igbo president should emerge in 2023.

In an interview on ARISE NEWS on Monday, Obi said the South East must make a “convincing argument” to Nigerians why the region should produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.

The former vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 elections also urged the region to embrace the politics of “engagement and consultation and not confrontation”.

8. Why PDP Members Should Not Join APC – Gov. Tambuwal

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Tuesday noted that the All Progressives Congress does not have a political presence in the country.

Tambuwal who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 made this claim during the stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Abuja over the crisis affecting its leadership.

He said, “If anyone tells you to decamp to APC, ask them where is the party? A party that has no structures at the federal level, no structures at the state level.”

“No structures at the local government level and no structures at the ward level; how can you decamp to where there is no structure? Will you decamp to the Federal Government? Because APC is not there for you to decamp to?”

9. Schools In Kaduna To Remain Shut Until Security Improves – Govt Declares

The Kaduna State government has denied giving permission for primary and secondary schools in the state to resume on August 9.

This is as the state government emphasized that schools are to remain shut until security operatives give clearance for the safety of the students and teachers following series of attacks on schools by bandits and kidnappers.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Shehu Muhammad, stated this in Kaduna at a joint press conference with the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan.

According to him, students, parents, proprietors, and all other stakeholders are to ignore the fake news making rounds that approval has been given for schools in the state to resume for the third term on August 9.

10. FG Appoints, Redeploys NNPC Top Management Staff

The Federal Government has carried out some changes in the top management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Naija News reports that in the major top management reshuffle, the government made new appointments and redeployments at the corporation and scrapped the position of Chief Operating Officer which was introduced under Ibe Kachikwu, the immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum.

Announcing the changes at the corporation in a statement by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Kennie Obateru, the state oil firm said the changes were geared towards attaining global excellence and profitability.
