Kwara: 16-Year-Old Girl Sets Colleague On Fire Over Disagreement

A Magistrate Court in Ilorin has remanded a 16-year-old girl for allegedly setting her colleague, Fatimah Jako, ablaze killing her in the process.

It was reported that the teenager set her colleague on fire over a minor misunderstanding that ensued between them.

The 16-year-old was charged for alleged Criminal Trespass, Mischief by Fire and Culpable Homicide contrary to sections 327, 342 and 221 penal code law.

The saddened incident which occurred at Moshegada community in the Kaima Local Government Area of Kwara State was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, in the state for more investigation.

It was gathered that the deceased and the defendant worked at one Joseph Friday’s Patent Medicine Store before the deceased was transferred to another branch over their quarrel.

It was reported that the teenager gained access into the room of the deceased while she was asleep, poured the petrol on her, and then set her ablaze.

The incident saw concerned people rush the victim to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for treatment but she was later confirmed dead by doctors as a result of the burns she suffered.

The defendant during investigation confessed to setting her colleague on fire because of a disagreement.

Magistrate F. O Olokoyo pending the outcome of advice from the Ministry of Justice adjourned the case to August, 30.
