Suspected armed bandits who attacked a travelling commercial bus in Zamfara State have killed a police officer assigned to protect the travellers.

It was gathered that the incident occurred while the vehicle was travelling from Dansadau to Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.

Naija News reports Dansadau is about 99 kilometers from Gusau.

According to reports on the incident, one of the vehicles been escorted broke down on the road and while it was been fixed, the bandits appeared from the bush and opened fire, killing the police operative providing security cover.

“One of the vehicles which they were escorting broke down. So as they were waiting to give security cover to the driver to fix the vehicle, the bandits opened fire on them, killing one officer,” a source quoted by Sahara Reporters said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Navy has confirmed that its operatives killed six suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra during Monday’s sit-at-home.

It also debunked reports that two naval officers were killed during the gun duel that ensued.

The Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost, Onitsha, Anambra State, Adekunle Okeniyi said yesterday in a statement that the IPOB members attempted to attack the naval operatives.
