Uche Secondus accused of receiving N250m from Dasuki

Nine members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met on Sunday to extensively deliberate on the crisis rocking the main opposition party.

At the end of their deliberations, the majority of them were of the view that the embattled National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus has and should be shown the exit door.

Naija News learnt from highly-placed sources that the NWC members felt that the Rivers-born politician has grossly mismanaged the party and described Secondus as highly incompetent.

They also claimed that he has factionalised the party and has lost the confidence of PDP members.

Last week, seven NWC members of the PDP resigned their position in protest over an alleged poor leadership of the party.

The seven deputy national officers accused Secondus of not carrying other NWC members along in the scheme of things, adding that they were also not comfortable working with Secondus due to the recent gale of defections of party bigwigs.

Reacting in a statement a few days ago, the PDP National Chairman stated that a strong party chieftain has turned to ‘a Father Christmas’ with the intention of seeing to his removal so that the party can have an interim arrangement in the form of a caretaker committee.

He said the unnamed PDP top shot is up in arms against him so that he could take over the party structures for the 2023 polls.

When calls for his resignation were put to vote during yesterday’s meeting, six members voted that the national chairman should resign while three members abstained from voting.

The NWC will now forward resolutions from their meeting to the PDP Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees and the caucuses of PDP members in the House of Reps and the Senate.

According to the insider, “We call on all members of the party to remain calm as the party leadership is working tirelessly to resolve the leadership crisis”.

The meeting, which took place at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja was attended by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Sen. Suleiman Nazif, the National Secretary, Sen. Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, the National Auditor, Mai Adamu Mustapha, National Financial Secretary, Abdulahi Maibasira.

Others are the National Youth Leader, S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye, National Vice Chairman (South-West), Taofiq Arapaja, National Vice Chairman (South-East), Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Osi Orbih, National Vice Chairman (North-Central), Chief Theophilus Dakas.
