PDP Crisis: Elumelu Condemns Call For Secondus’ Resignation

Uche Secondus

The Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has described as unnecessary the call for the resignation of the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus.

Naija News reports that the PDP caucus in the Green Chamber had asked the embattled chairman to resign his position immediately.

In a statement on Sunday jointly signed by the party’s caucus leader and deputy leader, Kingsley Chinda and Chukwuka Onyema, the lawmakers had asked Secondus to leave his position to allow peace to reign in the party.

Reacting in a statement issued on Monday, Elumelu condemned the call by the PDP caucus in the lower legislative chamber for Secondus to resign.

He described the online meeting where it was resolved that Secondus should resign as a breach of established procedure.

Elumelu, however, asked the PDP caucus in the green chamber to exercise caution and patience, adding that the different organs of the party are working to resolve the challenges confronting the PDP.

“The attention of the Minority Caucus, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, have been drawn to news reports purporting to be the intervention and outcome of an online meeting of the PDP Caucus in the House regarding the current leadership challenge within the party,” the statement reads.

“If such a meeting held, it was without the knowledge of the leadership of the Minority Caucus, and therefore in breach of established procedure, ” he said.
