Nnamdi Kanu: Stay Away From Enugu, Police Warn IPOB Members

The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has warned members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to stay clear of the state.

The Police gave the warning against the backdrop of plans by the group to commence a sit-at-home protest today to drive home their demand for the federal government to release their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

It will be recalled that the group had vowed to lockdown the southeast region every Monday until the government releases Kanu from custody.

However, the Police in a statement on Monday through the Enugu command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe said no such act will be tolerated.

The statement further warned that anyone that attempts to cause trouble under the guise of the IPOB sit-at-home order will be severely dealt with according to the law.

According to Ndukwe, “The command enjoins peace-loving citizens of the state to go about their lawful businesses.

“Residents should disregard sit-at-home orders not issued or approved by any statutorily recognized organ or authorized Ministry, Department or Agency (MDA) of government.

“This includes one purportedly restricting public movements and businesses on Monday, Aug. 9 by pro-Biafran groups.

“Accordingly, any individual or group(s), who may want to hide under the guise of such illegitimate order to foment trouble in the state have been warned to desist forthwith.

“As anything in the contrary will be vehemently resisted and handled in accordance with the law.”

The police spokesman also urged the residents to remain vigilant and promptly report acts of criminality or breach of public peace to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lawyers representing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has again tackled Kenya for extraditing the agitator to Nigeria.

Naija News reports that in a statement on Sunday, Ejimakor stated that Nnamdi Kanu was technically still in Kenya.

According to the legal practitioner, Nigeria misled Kenya to illegally extradite the separatist to the country.
