1. Another Chibok Schoolgirl Rescued – Zulum

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Saturday revealed that another Chibok girl has been rescued from captivity.

According to the governor, the rescued girl was married to a Boko Haram fighter and returned with two kids she delivered while in captivity.

2. RCDIJ: Journalists Storm Ripples Nigeria Annual Data Journalism Masterclass (Photos)

The Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism (RCDIJ), a non-profit sister organisation to Ripples Nigeria, on Thursday, August 5th, held the 2021 edition of its annual data journalism masterclass for African journalists.

The masterclass which was held at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, Lagos had in attendance Journalists from Nigeria and across Africa.

The 2021 edition saw Ripples Nigeria, Code for Africa, BudgIT, Tracka, The Journalism Clinic, and Jet Motor Company (JMC) partner with the centre to organize the specialised training.

3. Biafra: Southern Cameroon Separatists Deny Teaming Up With IPOB

A separatist group in southern Cameroon, Ambazonia, has refuted claims that it has gone into an alliance with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), disclosing that the region has had nothing to do with Nigeria’s South-East since 1953 when they left to be part of Cameroon.

Naija News recalls that reports emerged some months back that Ambazonia and Biafra agitators have joined forces to disintegrate their current countries which they believed are marginalising them.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by a supposed leader of the Ambazonia Governing Council, Dr Cho Ayuba, and Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB last April.

4. Obasanjo Travels To Benin Republic, Seeks Soft-Landing For Sunday Igboho

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo travelled to the Benin Republic in the first week of August, according to The Cable.

Top sources in the country disclosed that Obasanjo travelled to Zanzibar, an island in Tanzania on August 1 and moved to the Francophone country.

A further report had it that the former President travelled to the Benin Republic in the guise of condoling with Nicephore Soglo who recently lost his wife, Roseline Soglo.

Roseline died on July 25 at the age of 87 in Cotonou.

5. I Use National Hospital, Medical Treatment In Nigeria Is Okay – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has stated that there is no need for Nigerians to seek medical treatment abroad, as the country has the necessary facilities to provide quality healthcare for citizens.

He stated this amid the current strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), while President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in London, where he is scheduled for a medical check-up after attending the global education summit in the UK.

Asked why Nigerians still have to travel abroad for medical check-up despite the amount budgeted to improve the health sector, Ngige said people are free to make their choices, stressing that, “for me, it depends on you. If you have the means and you want to do a second option abroad, why not? It is permitted. I have my doctors here”.

6. 2023: Wike, Secondus Clash At PDP BoT Meeting

More details have emerged over what transpired between the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus and Governor Nyesom Wike at the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting.

The BoT had called for a meeting on Thursday to find a solution to the crisis rocking the main opposition party which had led to the resignation of seven top National Working Committee (NWC) members.

The seven national officers of the party who resigned included the Deputy National Financial Secretary, the Deputy Legal Adviser, the Deputy National Auditor, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, the Deputy Women Leader and the Deputy Organising Secretary.

The crisis rocking the party is connected to the jostle for shares of the PDP structure ahead of the 2023 polls by political bigwigs.

7. What Sunday Igboho Told Me Before DSS Raid – Ally Reveals

Alhaji Yusuf Saheed, one of the close allies to Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed how activist predicted his current travails.

According to Saheed who is popularly called Ajikobi 1, Igboho had before the raid at his house in Ibadan by men of the Department of State Security, DSS, told him and three others a secret.

Ajikobi 1 who described Igboho as an Angel, said the agitator had foreseen the future because what happened to him, he had predicted ahead.

8. Why Babangida Tackled Buhari, Atiku, Bola Tinubu

Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), deliberately wanted to court controversy with his comments on President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu.

Naija News reports that this is the position of an associate professor of Political Sociology, University of Abuja, Dr Abubakar Umar Kari.

IBB, as Babangida is popularly known, had during an interview with AriseTV tackled Buhari, Atiku and Tinubu.

9. What I Will Do To Striking Doctors Next Week – Ngige Threatens

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has vowed to take decisive action against striking doctors next week.

Naija News reports that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is currently on strike based on the Federal Government’s failure to honour an agreement with them.

Despite efforts to make NARD perform a U-turn, the association has refused to back down on its industrial action.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday night, Ngige accused NARD of not officially informing him before embarking on its current strike.

10. I Survived Two Assassinations, Joining Politics Worst Decision In My Life – IBB’s Spokesman, Afegbua

Prince Kassim Afegbua, the media adviser to former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, has revealed that he survived two assassination attempts.

Speaking to The Nation, the former Edo government official described joining politics as one of the worst decisions in his life.

Afegbua revealed that he still gets death threats because he has chosen to speak against bad governments.
