1. Previous Govts Left Us 166 Abandoned Water Projects – FG

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has accused past administrations of leaving behind over 166 water projects uncompleted.

The incumbent government traced back the abandoned projects to as far back as 1992 and the early 2000s, Naija News reports.

This was made known on Thursday by the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, while speaking at the weekly ministerial briefing organized by the Presidential Communication Team at the presidential villa.

2. Lagos Assembly Adopts Report To Cut Tinubu, Fashola, Others’ Pension

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the report of its committee on establishment which recommended the reduction of pensions to former governors and other affected officials by 50 percent.

In a statement sent to Naija News on Thursday evening, the establishment committee also expunged the provision of houses in Abuja and Lagos for former governors as stipulated in an earlier law operated by the state.

The report further showed a reduction in the number of vehicles to be made available to former governors and their deputies.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa suggested that former governors should get two vehicles (a car and a van) instead of three as recommended by the committee.

He also suggested that the amended bill should provide that the cars be changed every four years instead of the three years recommended by the report.

3. Uche Secondus: Details Of What PDP BoT Discussed Emerges

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed measures put in place to address the internal crisis rocking the party.

The representatives of the BoT spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday after the crucial meeting held behind closed doors by the party leaders.

The meeting was summoned in the wake of defections from the party as well as the recent leadership crisis touching on the National Chairman position occupied by Prince Uche Secondus.

Following the meeting, former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and David Mark were delegated to address the press and the public on the outcome of the meeting.

Addressing the public, Mark explained that a committee made up of major stakeholders including governors, members of the BoT, members of the national assembly, members of the national working committee (NWC), former governors, and former ministers of the party will be constituted and meet within the next 72 hours to address pressing issues.

Buttressing the position stated by Mark, Bukola Saraki also assured that the matters affecting the party are receiving urgent attention and will all be addressed by the committee.

4. Ganduje States Position On IPOB, Yoruba Nation Agitation

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has called on groups such as the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and others demanding an independent Yoruba Nation to halt their agitations.

He noted that under the constitution, the activities of those calling for the break up of Nigeria can be termed as illegal but the government should find a way to address their agitations through dialogue.

According to him, the only way the agitations can be given due consideration is through the amendment of the constitution by the National Assembly.

Naija News reports Ganduje spoke on Thursday while presenting a paper, ‘Sustaining a United and Indivisible Nigeria: A Myth or Reality” at the Second Quarterly Public Lecture series of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Press Corps, held at Sheraton Towers Hotel, Abuja.

5. 2023: Atiku Wades Into PDP Crisis, Calls For Calm

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has urged members and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite in order to make progress.

Atiku spoke against the backdrop of the recent crisis rocking the party, particularly, the calls for the removal of Prince Uche Secondus as the national chairman of the party.

He said the PDP must not allow the dreams of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to have a one-party state to come to fulfillment.

According to the former Vice President, PDP can’t afford to be divided at this critical point in time when Nigerians are desperately yearning for change in the face of their miserable living conditions.

He added that Nigerians are looking forward to the PDP to save them in 2023 hence the party can not afford to be fighting itself and lend its hands to the ruling party for its own destruction.

6. Bandit Terrorists Kidnap Zamfara Speaker’s Father, Stepmother

Bandit terrorists have abducted the father and step-mother of the Speaker of the Zamfara State Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Muazu Magarya.

Naija News understands that the gunmen stormed Magarya community of Zurmi Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night, shooting sporadically to the air.

It was learned that the gunmen abducted the speaker’s uncle and four other persons during the attack.

7. Stop Lying Against Us – DSS Warns Olusegun Adeniyi

The Department of State Services (DSS) has accused popular writer, Olusegun Adeniyi of misrepresenting the service to the public.

The DSS also called on members of the public to disregard allegations levelled against them by the writer in an opinion article titled “Beyond Abba Kyari’s Indictment.”

Naija News understands Adeniyi had in the article, claimed that several innocent Nigerians were being held captive unlawfully in various DSS detention facilities across the country.

He also accused them of making themselves willing tools in the hands of the high and mighty in the society.

But the secret police in a statement on Thursday signed by its spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya said there is no truth in the claims by the writer.

8. Enugu Killings: IPOB Sends Warning To Fulani Herdsmen

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, warned Fulani herdsmen against the rise in killings in Enugu communities.

Naija News reports that about eight persons were recently killed in Mgbuji community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu State.

It was gathered that the Fulani herdsmen destroyed hectares of farmlands, with many residents reportedly missing.

Reacting in a statement on Thursday, the pro-Biafra group stated that it would teach the herdsmen a lesson in the language they would understand.

According to IPOB, the attack has revealed that the Nigerian security agencies as hypocrites.

9. Supreme Court Affirms Buni, Others as APC Caretaker Committee

The Supreme Court has affirmed the appointment of the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker-National Convention Planning Committee.

A seven-man panel of the apex court headed Justice Emmanuel Agim, in its verdict, held that Buni’s position in the ruling party was not contrary to the provision of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution because it is on a temporary basis which is not akin to Executive office or paid employment as envisaged by Section.

Controversies and perceived misinterpretations of the judgment over Governor Buni’s headship of the APC have trailed the recently delivered Supreme Court judgment affirming Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s second term victory wherein his nomination under the party’s Caretaker Committee was challenged.

Naija News reports that extracts from the certified true copy of the judgment in the case against Akeredolu’s re-election, which was made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday by the Legal Adviser of the APC, Prof. Tahir Mamman, quoted the apex court as saying that the Committee headed by Buni “is on firm ground to proceed with its mandate as given by the National Executive Committee of the APC.”
