Two Killed, Houses Burnt In Fresh Taraba Communal Crisis

Security operatives have killed three gunmen in a shootout during Thursday night attack on a police station in Orlu, Imo State.

It was reported that the gunmen burnt the Orlu police station with the aid of explosives and petrol bombs, killing one police inspector.

This development was confirmed in a statement released by the spokesman of the command, Mike Abattam, on Friday.

Abattam, in the statement, disclosed that the gunmen attacked and threw explosives and petrol bombs on the roof of Orlu Police Station around 9:35 pm, damaging the roof and burning the station.

He further stated that the fire affected some of the vehicles in the premises of the station.

The tactical teams of the command engaged the gunmen in a gun duel and due to the superior firepower of the police subdued the gunmen.

“Three of the bandits were neutralised and their guns, one pump action gun and two locally-made double-barrelled pistols were recovered while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.

“Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack,” the statement read in part.
