Suspended National Chairman of the PDP

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis rocking the party at various levels.

Naija News gathered the meeting will hold today (Thursday) and top of the agenda will be issues surrounding the continued stay in office of Prince Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the party.

The wranglings within the party reached a crescendo on Tuesday when seven members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced their resignation, noting that they could no longer work with Secondus in charge of party affairs.

Before then, the PDP had lost major members including sitting governors and serving lawmakers to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), setting alarm bells ringing ahead of the 2023 general elections.

As the controversy threatening to swallow the party continues to rage, the Chairman of the PDP BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin when contacted said today’s meeting was convened to review issues affecting the party and map out strategies to restore it to the path of progress.

Jibrin noted that the gale of defection rocking the party as well as the calls for Secondus to resign would also be discussed during the meeting.

“The BOT is holding a meeting tomorrow (today) to map out strategies on how the party will be on the right track and explore actions to take. The meeting will discuss the issue of the seven deputy secretaries that resigned.

“Nigerians should have complete confidence with the BOT with the view to taking decisions in the interest of the party and Nigerians. Crisis can occur at any time but looking at the crisis, our own is 100 per cent better than the crisis in the APC. We are going to overcome all our problems by this week,” he said.

On Secondus, he said, “It is very normal for people to call on leaders to resign if they see something wrong about the person’s leadership. We are going to discuss the matter and we will act accordingly”.

Meanwhile, the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has revealed that a strong chieftain of the party is trying to hijack the PDP from him.

Secondus who spoke on Wednesday alleged further that the person whom he refused to name, is working on denting his image.

The PDP chairman revealed that the person is pushing for the party to have an interim arrangement in the form of a caretaker committee so he could take over the party structures.

The alarm raised by Secondus was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ike Abonyi, titled, ‘Who is after Secondus and why is somebody in love of caretaker?
