BREAKING: NCDC Confirms Cases Of Omicron Variant In Nigeria

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday recorded 747 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that this was disclosed by the NCDC on its website on Thursday morning.

According to the agency, the 747 new cases were the highest in any single day in the last five months.

About 488 cases were recorded in Lagos followed by Akwa Ibom 121 cases, Oyo 29, Rivers 25 and Ogun 15.

Abuja and Kaduna recorded 13 each; Kwara 11; Ekiti and Osun reported 10 each; Edo had six, Abia had three, Anambra recorded two and Plateau had one.

Four COVID-19-related deaths were also recorded by the agency on Wednesday, raising the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Nigeria to 2,167.

The NCDC disclosed that the average test positivity rate in Nigeria was six per cent. It said the active cases were 7,969.

This online news platform reports that Nigeria is currently battling the third wave of the virus after successfully tackling the first and second wave.
