1. Hushpuppi: IGP Appoints Disu As Replacement For Kyari

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has appointed DCP Tunji Disu as the head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Disu replaces the embattled Abba Kyari who has been suspended over allegation of bribe levelled against him by a suspected international fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.

The news of the replacement was contained in a statement on Monday evening by the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.

The appointment is with immediate effect.

2. FCT Chief Judge Resigns, Takes Up New Appointment

The recently appointed Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Justice Salisu Garba has voluntarily resigned from office.

Garba resigned from office barely 57 days after he was sworn in to enable him take over as the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Naija News understands.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the media aide to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, Mr. Ahuraka Isah.

According to the statement, the Board of Governors of the NJI under the chairmanship of the CJN, Justice Tanko Ibrahim Muhammad, had at a meeting they held on July 15, appointed Justice Garba to head the Institute.

3. DSS Operatives Assault Journalists Covering Suit Of 12 Igboho’s Aides

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday attacked journalists covering the case involving 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.

Naija News gathered that the secret police officers attacked journalists and other press crew at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

A photojournalist with Vanguard, Gbenga Olamikan was manhandled on the court premises while covering the arrival of the agitators.

The armed DSS operatives pounced on him, seized his mobile phone, and forced him at gunpoint to delete all the pictures he took.

It took the intervention of his colleagues who insisted that his phone must be returned.

4. Ozekhome Reveals What US Must Do To Extradite Abba Kyari

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN on Monday disclosed what the United States must do to extradite Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Ozekhome in his statement said the United States must make a formal request for the embattled police officer.

Recall that the Nigerian super cop was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the fraud case involving internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Ozekhome while reacting to the development on Arise Tv on Monday said the FBI can’t just come to Nigeria to arrest Kyari without going through an extradition process.

5. Buhari Govt Only Negotiate When We Go On Strike – Doctors

The President of the Association of Resident Doctors at the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Akanimo Ebong, has stated that strike is the only language the federal government understands.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ebong pointed out that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government only negotiates when health workers embark on strike.

Recall that doctors on Sunday announced that they would be embarking on an indefinite industrial action starting from today Monday.

They had embarked on an earlier strike in April, which was suspended 10 days later after they met with Federal Government representatives.

In a statement to newsmen, President of the NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, had accused the Federal Government of failing to honour and implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with them after over 100 days.

6. Buni Speaks On APC Nationwide Ward Congress

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has described the conduct of the party’s ward congress as successful.

Governor Buni in a statement by his DG, Press and Media, Mamman Mohammed, congratulated members of the party over the successful and peaceful conduct of the events.

The Chairman said reports from across the states reaching his office indicate that the congress was generally successful and peaceful.

7. Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho’s Arrest Might Fast-track Restructuring – Ezeife

A Third Republic Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said the arrest of IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho might help to fast-track discussions relating to restructuring.

According to the elder statesman, the clampdown on Kanu and Igboho indicates that the federal government wants the south out of Nigeria.

The former governor called on the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to use this opportunity to negotiate with the southern part of the country on Nigeria’s unity.

8. Court Adjourns Sunday Igboho Aides’ Suit Against DSS

The Federal High Court Abuja has adjourned the suit brought by the 12 detained aides of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Naija News reports that the court on Monday adjourned the case to August 4.

Counsel to the applicants, Pelumi Olagbenjesi, was granted a leave to amend his processes to correct the names of the applicants.

Confusing at rising in court over the names of the eight applicants produced by the Department of State Services (DSS). Thus, Olagbejensi applied to amend his processes to reflect their correct names.

9. FBI Reveals How Much Hushpuppi Paid Abba Kyari To Detain Chibuzo

A new revelation has emerged in the bribery allegation levelled against Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari in a case involving internet fraudster, Abass Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has alleged that the super cop was paid ₦8m or $20,600 by Hushpuppi to arrest Chibuzo Kelly Vincent.

A document issued by the United States District Court for the Central District of California and dated February 12, 2021, alleged that Hushpuppi contracted the services of Kyari after Chibuzo allegedly threatened to expose an alleged $1.1m fraud committed against a Qatari businessman.

10. 2023: Nigerians Must Avoid Voting For APC, PDP – Jega

Former chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has warned that Nigerians must not vote for either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in 2023.

He explained that both parties have had their chances and have failed Nigerians, hence the need to deny them votes during the next general elections.

According to Jega, both parties have proved they can’t solve the country’s problems and it is time for Nigerians to vote a credible alternative.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa, Jega maintained that his time in the lecture halls and at the helm of affairs at INEC has confirmed that both APC and PDP have nothing good to offer Nigerians.
