The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the unfortunate death of five prospective corps members.

The prospective corpers died in a road accident which occurred around 2am on Wednesday along the Abaji/Kwali Expressway.

The five dead persons were students of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who were heading for the NYSC camp in Katsina State, Naija News understands.

Apart from those who lost their lives, another seven prospective corps members were reportedly injured in the accident and are receiving treatment at a government hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking about the accident, the NYSC management in a statement on Wednesday commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives as well as the government and people of Akwa-Ibom and Imo States.

The statement reads: “It is with deep sense of sorrow that the Director-General, Management and the entire NYSC Family commiserate with the families of five Prospective Corps Members that lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident at about 2am today, Wednesday, 28th July, 2021, along Abaji/ Kwali Expressway.

“The Director-General and Management also condole with the Governments and people of Akwa-Ibom and Imo States over the tragic incident that has left the Scheme devastated.”

“Indeed, it has been a black Wednesday for the NYSC Family.”

“May God grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

“May their souls rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, suspected bandit terrorists have released the abducted traditional ruler of Jaba Chiefdom in Kaduna State, Gyet Maude.

Naija News had reported that the prominent monarch was abducted on Monday while working on his farm at Gitata community in Nasarawa State.

On Tuesday, it was learned that the terrorists demanded a N100 million ransom from his family and community before they will release the traditional ruler.

Speaking with Channels Television on Wednesday, one of the monarch’s children, Anthony Maude, said his father was freed on Wednesday evening after spending two days with his abductors.
