1. Lawyer: It’s Better To Keep Sunday Igboho In Benin And Kill Him Than…

One of the five lawyers representing Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho, Ibrahim Salami has said keeping the agitator in Benin is better than returning him back to Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Sunday Igboho was on Monday arrested In Benin Republic alongside his wife, Ropo, which trying to board a flight to Germany.

The Court D’Apeal in Cotonou, Benin Republic, had on Thursday adjourned the trial of Sunday Igboho till Monday, July 26.

Speaking in an interview with BBC on Saturday, Salami said he and other lawyers will never let Igboho get extradited to Nigeria.

2. Benin Republic May Drop Charges As Sunday Igboho Seeks Asylum

As the Nigerian Government push for his extradition from Benin Republic, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, is strategically plotting moves to frustrate such plans.

Recall that Igboho was arrested with his Germany-based wife, Ropo, at the airport while trying to catch a flight to Germany on Monday.

In a ruling on Thursday, the Cour De’appal De Cotonou ordered that Ropo should be released unconditionally as there were no charges against her.

While Igboho, who is being tried for migration-related issues after he was allegedly caught with a fake Beninese passport at the airport, should be remanded in detention.

3. Passengers Escape Death As Plane Crashes In Kwara

Many passengers narrowly escaped death as an aircraft in the fleet of Air Peace crash-landed at the runway of the Ilorin International Airport, Kwara State.

Naija News learned that the aircraft crashed around 9.30 am on Friday morning upon landing in Ilorin from Abuja.

The plane had a tyre burst and a bang which affected the cabin with luggage falling on passengers.

It was gathered with the impact of the crash, the plane could not taxi to the tarmac.

4. Sunday Igboho: Gov Sanwo-Olu Breaks Silence On What South-West Governors Are Doing

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday reacted to the arrest of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday in the Benin Republic.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who spoke after casting his vote at Polling Unit 019 Ward 08, Ikoyi II, during the Local Government/Council Areas election on Saturday said the trial of the agitator is a difficult time for the South-West Governors.

According to him, a lot of people had steps being “taken quietly and privately.”

The Lagos State Governor when asked why there was presumed silence of the governors on the arrest of Igboho, he replied, “These are very difficult times for all of us. I can assure you that people are working behind the scenes.”

5. APC Move Against Bola Tinubu Presidential Ambition, Plot Consensus Candidate

Opposition groups in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly working underground to frustrate the yet to be officially announced presidential bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Naija News reports that the ruling APC had settled for a consensus option for the emergence of party officials at all levels.

In a statement last Wednesday, Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, said the reason for the decision is to reduce acrimony ahead of the forthcoming congresses.

6. Sunday Igboho Is A Gunrunner, Must Be Kept In Custody – Buhari Govt

The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has accused Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, of being a gunrunner.

Recall that the Benin Republic police on Monday night arrested Igboho at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, while trying to fly from the country to Germany.

Speaking to Saturday PUNCH, a source revealed that the Buhari administration sent representatives to court on Thursday to get Sunday Igboho extradited to Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Government has made attempts to get him (Igboho) but Benin Republic didn’t release him,” he said.

7. Sunday Igboho Drags Buhari Govt To Court, Demands ₦5.1bn Damages

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho has dragged the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the DSS to court over the invasion of his house.

Naija News recalls that the DSS had raided the residence of Igboho in Soka, Ibadan on July 1, 2021.

After the raid, the secret police paraded 12 of Igboho’s followers in Abuja, saying one other was being profiled.

The DSS who said two of Igboho’s guards were killed during a gun duel, declared the agitator wanted.

8. Police Handcuff Igboho Despite Being In Cell — Benin Lawyer

One of the lawyers of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, in Benin Republic, Ibrahim Salami, on Saturday disclosed that police in the country handcuffed the hands of the activist despite detaining him in a locked cell.

Salami disclosed this in an interview with BBC News Yoruba on Saturday.

He said, “We are five lawyers handling his case. When we visited Sunday Adeyemo at the police station, he was not beaten but what they did that is alien to the law here is that they handcuffed him inside the police cell after locking the cell. This makes eating and movement within the cell difficult for him to the extent that someone has been helping him in this regard.

“Apart from being a lawyer, I am also a professor of law at a university here in the Benin Republic. Part of what we teach our students is human rights. Human rights frown at the action of the police.”

9. PIB 3%: Niger Delta Militants Threaten Renewed Attacks On Oil Facilities

The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders (NDRC) have threatened to resume attacks on oil facilities in the Southsouth over the recently passed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

Naija News reports that the National Assembly had recently allocated 3% to the Niger Delta region in the PIB as against the 5% the region had advocated for.

Reacting in a statement, the spokesperson of the militant group, WO 1 Izon-Ebi, slammed lawmakers for passing the unfavorable allocation.

According to him, NDRC commanders have returned to the creeks of the Niger Delta, in preparation to strike.

10. Obaseki Revokes Ize-Iyamu’s Ownership Of 18 Hectare Land

Governor Godwin Obaseki has revoked the ownership of land belonging to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

The governor made this known in a letter sent to Ize-Iyamu by the Edo State Geographic Information Service (GIS) dated Thursday, July 22, 2021.

The letter which was signed by the Chief Registrar of Titles and Instruments, Nora Ohiwerei, added that Ize-Iyamu’s right of occupancy on the 18-hectare property located at Amagba, Benin City has been revoked.

It reads: “I am directed to inform you that the Edo State Governor Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has formally revoked the statutory right on all that parcel of land measuring approximately 18.0736 hectares in Amagba village area.”
