Fuel Subsidy Palliative: Gov Abiodun Reveals Key Decisions Taken At NEC Meeting

Ogun state government has ahead of 2021 Eid El Kabir celebration warned ram sellers against setting up illegal markets in the state.

The State Governor Dapo Abiodun in a statement through his Special Adviser on Environment, Ola Oresanya, warned the traders against converting any available open spaces into markets, saying offenders will be prosecuted.

The government condemned the act saying it is against the state’s environmental laws while debasing the aesthetic value of the surroundings.

Oresanya said further that aside from the fact that the emerging markets were illegal, they were being operated in an unhealthy and filthy environment. He said: “The traders in these markets, aside from operating illegally, deface the land spaces with wastes and animal droppings, while those of them that trade in livestock, especially chicken and turkey, litter the spaces with a blood clot and other foul-smelling wastes, which will contaminate the environment and spread diseases.”

Oresanya regretted that some of the livestock traders operate illegally on the roadsides, thereby causing heavy gridlock and exposing themselves and their customers to avoidable road crashes. He cautioned those planning to run emergency markets during the Sallah to have a rethink and move to legal markets or face the consequences.

He stated further that health officers would be on duty to enforce the new order and prosecute offenders.

Meanwhile, a socio-cultural group, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) has condemned the Lagos Police Command for stopping its peace rally and sensitisation motorcade on Friday, Naija News reports.
