1. Nigerians Waited In The Sun To See Me Because They Accept Me – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has appreciated Nigerians for the love shown to him as the leader of the country and vowed to reciprocate with good service.

The President noted that despite the challenges facing the country, Nigerians are still lucky not to have been torn apart.

Buhari made the submission on Tuesday at State House, Abuja, while receiving the report of the National Security Summit held on May 26, 2021, by the House of Representatives.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila led the delegation that came to submit the report to the President.

2. APC Denies Suspending Rochas Okorocha

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied suspending former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha for alleged “anti-party activities”.

It was earlier reported that Okorocha was suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the development, APC Secretary, Senator Akpanudoehede, told The Nation the purported letter of suspension addressed to Okorocha was fake and forged.

3. Senate Rejects Onochie As INEC Commissioner

The 9th Senate has rejected the nomination of the Personal Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The presidential aide was rejected following the report by the Senate Committee on (INEC), Senator Kabir Gaya who said her nomination breaches Federal Character principles.

Kabir Gaya cited Section 14 (1) 3 of the Constitution, stating that somebody was already a Commissioner from her zone, and the law remains clear about that.

The committee said there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.

4. Buhari Presents 2022-2024 MTEF/FSP To Senate

President Muhammdu Buhari has presented the 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) to the Senate for consideration and approval.

The Senate President Ahmad Lawan made this known on the floor on Tuesday while reading a letter sent to the Senate.

In the statement, Buhari said the submission of the MTEF/FSP was to give lawmakers enough time to consider and pass the 2022 budget in December to meet up with the January-December budget circle.

Thereafter, Lawan referred the communication to the Joint Committees on Finance, National Planning, Banking, Insurance, and other Financial institutions; Petroleum on Downstream, Upstream, Gas Resources and Foreign and local Debts.

5. IGP Baba Gives Update On Factory-fitted Tinted Glasses

The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Usman Alkali Baba, has said vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glasses are exempted from getting a police permit.

Speaking on Monday during a virtual interaction with journalists, he said the ban on tinted glasses that are not factory-fitted was to stem crimes and criminality across the country.

The IGP added that the police were concerned about tinted glasses that are not factory-fitted because operatives cannot see through such vehicles.

According to Baba, the force was making efforts to educate the cops on the policy for effective implementation.

The police boss, however, urged the media to help disseminate the information so that people are better informed.

6. Buhari Responsible For Nigeria’s Problems – Gani Adams

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams has laid the blames for the problems facing Nigeria squarely at the feet of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Yoruba generalissimo said Buhari has made many mistakes as the leader of Nigeria and plunged the nation into its current predicaments.

Adams was quoted to have made the submission during an interview with BBC Yoruba.

According to him, “there are many mistakes the Buhari’s administration has made, and it has led to our problems. For a country to be peaceful, it is in the hand of the leader.”

He also submitted that it was wrong for the Buhari government to have rejected and dismissed the recommendations of the national confab which in his view, could have remedied some of nation’s predicaments.

7. Governors To Meet Wednesday On PIB, Judiciary Autonomy, Others

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) will on Wednesday meet to deliberate on the recently passed Petroleum Industry Bill, 2021, the legislative and judicial autonomy as well as Executive Order 10.

In a statement on Tuesday issued by the NGF Director-General, Asishana Bayo Okauru, the teleconference meeting will be chaired by the NGF Chairman, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

Okauru noted that the governors will review the Memorandum of Action, which was signed, months ago, in a series of meetings between the governors, members of JUSUN, PASAN and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

He added that the governors are also expected to discuss the maiden meeting of the National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy where committees will be considered and request for nominees into the Technical Working Group will also feature.

8. Alleged Assault: Senate Threatens To Arrest CCT Chairman

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has threatened to arrest the Chairman of the Code of Conducts Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.

The Senate Committee on Tuesday reacted angrily as the CCT chairman failed to show up before it for a scheduled hearing over an alleged case of assault involving him.

Naija News recalls the CCT Chairman is being investigated by the Senate over an alleged assault on a security guard in Abuja.

Segwak went ahead to petition the Senate on the matter through his lawyer, Barrister Timzing Ramnal.

Rather than appear before the lawmakers, Umar’s counsel, Barrister Toluwa Odekhe on Tuesday presented two originating summons to inform the Committee that the alleged assault on Clement Sagwak in March was already before the Court.

9. Yoruba Nation: Nigeria Intelligence Services Locate Sunday Igboho

The hideout of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, has been discovered by the Intelligence community in Nigeria.

Recall that the Department of State Services invaded that residence of the Yoruba Nation agitator in the Soka area in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.

According to the secret police, weapons found in his residence include assault rifles, bullets, and machetes.

Meanwhile, two of his aides were killed and twelve other associates, including a woman, are being detained.

A source close to federal authorities in a discussion with Daily Post on Tuesday night, said the government already identified his hiding place.

10. PDP Reacts To Rejection Of Onochie As INEC Commissioner

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the Senate for rejecting the nomination of a presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, as a national commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News earlier reported that Onochie was rejected following the report by the Senate Committee on (INEC), Senator Kabir Gaya who said her nomination breaches Federal Character principles.

Kabir Gaya cited Section 14 (1) 3 of the Constitution, stating that somebody was already a Commissioner from her zone, and the law remains clear about that.

He added that there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.

But in a statement on Tuesday issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP described the Senate’s rejection of Onochie as the triumph of the Nigerian people over the barefaced attempt by the Buhari led-APC administration to corrupt and hijack the commission ahead of 2023 elections.

The party asserted that the rejection has saved the nation from a very serious crisis as well as salvaged INEC and the entire Nigerian electoral process from ruinous pollution that would have led to the collapse of the democratic order.
