State Police Not The Solution To Insecurity In Nigeria – Ex-AIG

A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Wilson Inalegwu has submitted that the calls for state police can not solve the challenges of insecurity in Nigeria.

This is as he argued that local politicians would probably abuse the state police for their own selfish reasons if the current arrangement which puts control at the federal level is changed.

Speaking during a Channels TV interview, Inalegwu said rather than create state police, there should be better funding for the police while the current structure should be retained.

He said: “I am not an advocate, today, of state police because of my own experience as an officer who has served in various commands,” he said.

He added that: “Have you heard that in some places, some politicians cannot even visit their homes? And when they visit, things happen. People could come around your eyes and they begin to fire.

“Have you heard any local government election they conducted that any other party won apart from the party in that state, where you have the State Independent Electoral Commission?

“We can criticize the Nigerian police force, but let’s criticize them in context.

“I believe that the Nigerian police officer is the most competent, the most diligent, the most capable officer, but the environment he finds himself . . .”

Meanwhile, the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has again reacted to the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The cleric while reacting to the arrest of the IPOB leader said the arrest of Kanu will not stop insecurity in the country.

Mbaka added that if things were working well in the country Kanu would not be an issue for the government.
