A popular Nigerian political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has stated that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if it holds today.

Adeyanju, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), explained that Tinubu has the backing of most of the APC governors and Senators.

Naija News reports that Deji Adeyanju stated this in a post on social media site, Twitter.

According to the activist, APC leadership is delaying its national congress because of Tinubu’s wide support within the party structure.

Adeyanju wrote: “Both APC and PDP are going to present Northern candidates in 2023. But if primaries takes place in APC today, Tinubu will win because he has more support of their Govs, Senators structures, etc. This is one of the reasons they are delaying APC congress. Politics is deep.”

Recall that the process for the wards, local governments, state congresses, and national convention of the APC earlier scheduled to commence on July 24, 2021, has been postponed indefinitely.

The postponement was contained in a letter signed by the National Chairman of APC’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, who is Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, and the National Secretary of the CECPC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.

The letter, dated July 6, 2021, was addressed to the Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Though no specific reason was given in the letter, Naija News gathered the indefinite postponement can be linked to logistics challenges.

The letter reads: “We refer to our letter reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/021/20 dated June 10, 2021, on the above subject and wish to inform the Commission that the Party has rescheduled its Congresses and National Convention to a later date, which will be communicated to you.
