The process for the wards, local governments, state congresses, and national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier scheduled to commence on July 24, 2021, has been postponed indefinitely.
The postponement was contained in a letter signed by the National Chairman of APC’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, who is Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, and the National Secretary of the CECPC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.
The letter, dated July 6, 2021, was addressed to the Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
Though no specific reason was given in the letter, Naija News gathered the indefinite postponement can be linked to logistics challenges.
The letter reads: “We refer to our letter reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/021/20 dated June 10, 2021, on the above subject and wish to inform the Commission that the Party has rescheduled its Congresses and National Convention to a later date, which will be communicated to you.
“This serves as a formal notification pursuant to the provisions of Section 85 of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.
“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”
Meanwhile, a support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the leadership of the party against allowing just everyone to join the party.
The group identified as the National Committee of APC Support Groups for Senator Al-Makura warned the current leadership headed by the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni to be sure of the intention of some defectors before allowing them into the party.
The group alleged that some defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are joining the APC in order to escape prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and continue to enjoy their looted funds.
The APC support group made its submission in a communique read by its national Chairman Chukwunonso David Ezedinma.
