Protest Rocks Ibadan Over DSS Invasion Of Igboho’s Home

Supporters of Yoruba Nation Agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho have protested against the raid by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at his Soka residence in Ibadan.

Naija News reports that the protesters also demand the release of some allies of the Yoruba freedom fighter currently in detention of the security agency.

The protesters gathered in front of Soka residence of Igboho’s house in Ibadan from where they took to the streets.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as “No retreat, no surrender!”, “Oodua Nation!”, and “Sunday Igboho is not a criminal!” amongst others.

One of the protesters, who prefer anonymity, while addressing the gathering said that they would march to the palace of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and the Oyo State Government House, amongst other places.

He said; “It is a peaceful demonstration; we are marching there to demand the release of the detained persons. We are not afraid of teargas, we are marching to demand the rights of our people.

“We want them to bring the killers of Adogan and Alfa to book.

“The government must pay the N500m damages as requested by Igboho’s lawyer for the destruction of his house and property during the invasion.”

Recall that the DSS had last week said a joint team of security operatives raided Igboho’s residence based on an intelligence report.

DSS spokesperson Peter Afunaya said a total of seven AK 47 rifles were recovered, alongside pump action guns and 5,000 rounds of ammunition including other weapons.

The raid however had been condemned by many Nigerians including activist lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Many berated the operatives for declaring Igboho wanted, while some others stated that Federal Government must pay the N500m damages as requested by Igboho’s lawyer.
