The former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has been cleared of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate controversy, which resulted in her resignation in 2018.

Naija News reports that Adeosun was the plaintiff in the suit, while the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) was the sole defendant.

In a ruling on Wednesday on the originating summon with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/303/21 brought by Wole Olanipekun, SAN, on her behalf, Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, held that the NYSC certificate based on the constitution is not a mandatory requirement for holding a political office in the country.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday decorated the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and key government officials.

President Buhari had appointed the chief of army staff on May 27 to replace Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna.

The National Assembly last month confirmed Yahaya’s appointment.

The brief event at the State House, Abuja, held before the start of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) and was attended by the chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Ali Ndume.

In attendance are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, among others.

Some members of the cabinet are participating virtually from their various offices.
