1. Ignore Threats Of Fuel Scarcity – IPMAN Tells Nigerians

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has urged Nigerians not to entertain any fears about fuel scarcity as its members have no plan to proceed on strike.

The National Secretary of IPMAN, Mr Chidi Nnubia made the clarification in a statement on Monday in Akwa on behalf of the organization’s national president, Alhaji Sanusi Fari.

The statement comes as a reaction to an earlier threat by IPMAN National Public Relation Officer, Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman, who said the association would go on strike and shut fuel stations nationwide beginning from Tuesday because the police laid siege on its secretariat.

Suleiman who called for an end to what he terms impunity by some security agents alleged that some police officers laid siege on IPMAN’s National Secretariat last Friday for undisclosed reasons.

But IPMAN’s National President has told members of the public to disregard the threat by Sulieman and desist from engaging in panic buying of petroleum products.

2. Yoruba Nation Agitation – What We Want From Buhari – Igboho Makes Demand

Activist and Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has declared that he and his supporters are not going back on their demand for the Yoruba nation.

Igboho told President Buhari that they don’t want restructuring but an independent Yoruba nation.

The activist added that he wasn’t alone in his demand but has the support of many prominent persons who were working in the background.

He further accused the current administration of marginalizing the southwest region in terms of appointments into the government.

3. CJN Swears In 18 New Appeal Court Justices

Eighteen judges recently elevated to the Court of Appeal have been sworn in on Monday by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad.

The event held at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja.

The CJN told the new judges to avoid the temptations that may come with their new offices, urging them to be fair and just.

4. RMAFC To Unveil New Allocation Formula Before End Of 2021

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) on Monday announced that a new formula for sharing revenue between the states and federal government will be unveiled before the end of 2021.

The commission made the revelation in a statement issued in Abuja.

The RMAFC statement noted that “arrangements to fully commence the review of the Nation’s Revenue Allocation Formula (RAF) has been concluded.”

It added that when completed “the review is targeted at equitable distribution of the accrued revenue into the Federation account to the three tiers of government.”

5. Boko Haram: 2 Soldiers, 12 Terrorists Killed During Fierce Gun Battle In Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army on Sunday engaged in a fierce gun battle with some Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists who attempted to infiltrate a military base in Borno.

According to a statement on Monday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, the insurgents attempted to overrun the Forward Operational Base at Bula Yobe in Borno State but encountered stiff resistance from the troops.

The statement said troops, in conjunction with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, killed 12 of the suspected terrorists.

However, 2 soldiers also lost their lives in the incident while 5 other soldiers were wounded and receiving treatment.

6. Why Social Media Must Be Regulated – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has said that social media must be regulated to protect every citizen of the country against its negative sides.

Speaking during a programme on Channels Television on Sunday, Gbajabiamila said everything in life must have regulations no matter what it is.

Gbajabiamila noted that social media is the “most potent instrument” that can be used for good and bad.

He added that the National Assembly has faced harsh criticism in its attempts to regulate social media.

The speaker noted that freedom of speech is not absolute, stressing that there must a balance in the regulation of social media so that the rights of individuals are not infringed upon.

7. 18 APC Governors, Other Chieftains On Hand To Welcome Matawalle As He Defects From PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that it is planning a massive reception for Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle as he defects from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Chairman, Publicity Sub-Committee of the organizing ceremony, and Zamfara Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara said no fewer than 18 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, national and state legislators, as well as other party chieftains, are expected to welcome Matawalle when he officially defects on Tuesday.

Speaking on Monday in Gusau with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dosara said apart from the Governor, many other politicians and political office holders in Zamfara are expected to announce their defection from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday.

8. Passengers Trapped In The Bush As Abuja-Kaduna Train Breaks Down

Passengers on the Abuja/Kaduna train were on Monday trapped in Dutse, Kaduna State after the train developed faults few minutes into the journey.

According to Daily Trust, the train developed a mechanical fault five minutes after departing from the Rigasa Station in Kaduna, it developed a mechanical fault.

It was gathered that the train stopped twice before getting to Dutse, where it finally broke down.

An Assistant National Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Midat Joseph, who is one of the passengers, said the train developed fault around 7:am.

9. Be Ready To Lose Your Seat – PDP Threatens Matawalle Over Defection To APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle that he may have to forfeit his position if he proceeds with plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is as the PDP argued that the governorship position occupied by Matawalle in Zamfara State is based on the people’s vote for the party and not for him as a person.

The PDP said according to the 1999 constitution, Matawalle is just an agent of the party occupying the position and if he dumps the party that brought him to power, he must be ready to relinquish power as well.

The PDP went further to argue that members of the National Assembly from the state as well as members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly may also lose their seats if they join the governor in defecting.

10. CVR: INEC Opens Portal For Online Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched the portal for the pre-registration of eligible Nigerians as it commences the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.

The commission explained that the portal is for eligible persons to register online before they complete the process at a designated physical centre.

Naija News understands the physical centres would become functional from July 19, 2021.

Nigerians can pre-register while those who have registered in the past can access the platform to review their voter registration status.

Other things that can be done on the portal update of personal information or transfer voter registration to another polling unit.
