Former President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has admonished Nigerians, especially the youths to go out and enrol for the ongoing continuous voters’ registration exercise.

Naija News had reported earlier that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Monday (today) resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

The electoral body had noted that the registration which will span through the third quarter of 2022 in preparation for the 2023 general elections, will be targeting at least 20 million new voters.

INEC in a later development launched the portal for the pre-registration of eligible Nigerians as it commences the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise. The commission explained that the portal is for eligible persons to register online before they complete the process at a designated physical centre.

Naija News understands the physical centres would become functional from July 19, 2021. Nigerians can pre-register while those who have registered in the past can access the platform to review their voter registration status.

Reacting to the development in a video posted on all his social media handles (@bukolasaraki) on Monday, Saraki said with 30 million unregistered voters, young Nigerians had the power to choose their leaders at all levels.

He wrote: “In 2019, 84 million Nigerians registered to vote. 51 percent were below 35 years old. However, on election day, only 29 million voters came out.

“With about 30 million unregistered young voters, clearly, the power is firmly in your hands,” Saraki said.

He added that young Nigerian’s determination to make the country work for them has echoed across the world, while also emphasizing that if they register to vote, they can decide the future of the country.
