1. APC Committee Suspends Godswill Akpabio

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Support Committee has suspended its National Coordinator, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Naija News gathered that Akpabio was suspended over what the group describes as poor leadership.

The committee, which is an umbrella body of President Buhari support groups, was mandated to galvanize support for President Buhari’s re-election in 2019.

Akpabio’s suspension was made known to newsmen on Saturday by the spokesperson of the group, Kailani Muhamad.

2. Niger Delta Avengers Announce Return, Vow To Destroy Oil Facilities

Popular militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, has announced its return to the creeks and threatened to cripple Nigeria’s economy.

In a statement on Saturday, the militant group said it had launched ‘Operation Humble’ which is targeted at destroying oil facilities and crippling the Nigerian economy.

It also threatened to attack politicians who are working with the Federal Government “to undermine the Niger Delta region”.

3. Buhari Backs Amina Mohammed To Emerge UN Secretary-General

President Muhammadu Buhari has backed Amina Mohammed to succeed Antonio Guterres as the next secretary-general of the United Nations (UN).

Naija News reports that Buhari stated this at a symposium organised by the Center for Public Research and Development to celebrate the 60th birthday of Mohammed, who was recently reappointed to serve a second term as the deputy secretary-general of the UN.

Buhari, represented by Ibrahim Gambari, his chief of staff, described Mohammed’s UN appointment as a loss to Nigeria but a gain to the world.

He praised Mohammed for her great strides in first leading the country in different spheres and subsequently moving on to the UN.

4. Army Kills Scores Of Bandits In Zamfara

Troops of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have eliminated an unspecified number of bandits in Talata Marafa Local Government Area of Zamfara.

In a statement on Saturday, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed that the bandits were killed during a gun battle with soldiers.

Nwachukwu said troops, while on patrol, came under fire from bandits operating along Mayanchi-Dogo Karfe and Fagantama villages in the area.

He said the bandits were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops in the fierce encounter, adding that troops also recovered one PKT riffle, a large cache of ammunition, and a motorcycle.

5. 2021 UTME: JAMB Releases New Method To Check Result (See Details)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of the USSD code 55019 to check results.

Naija News recalls that JAMB in a statement on Friday had asked candidates to check their results by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 through the GSM number used by each candidate to obtain profile code and UTME registration with the board and their results would be relayed to them.

But in a terse statement on Saturday, JAMB’s Head of Media and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the USSD code 55019 is saddled with some challenges.

6. INEC Reacts To Court Ruling On Anambra PDP Executives

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will comply with a court judgement that dismissed the sacking of the Anambra state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executives.

Naija News reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja on June 9 dismissed three applications filed by the national office of the PDP and two others.

In a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman and dated June 25, INEC said it has received the court judgement dismissing the sacking of the Anambra PDP executives.

The letter signed by the secretary to the commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, informed the PDP national chairman that INEC would comply with the June 9 judgement.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has secretly married Zainab Algoni Abdulwahid, a young Shuwa Arab girl at a very private ceremony in Borno State.

According to SaharaReporters, the low-key marriage was solemnised at the Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh’s mosque in Maiduguri on Friday.

8. Biafra: Police Attack Three IPOB/ESN Camps, Kill Members In Imo [Photos]

Operatives of the Nigerian Police on Friday raided camps of suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militia wing of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group.

It was gathered that many ESN members were killed in the raid that took place at Atta, Izombe and Ideato North areas of the state.

The raids which commenced around 4 am was carried out by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and other special forces.

9. FG Should Extend Amnesty To Bandits – Gumi Insists

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has again asked the Federal Government to extend its amnesty programme to bandits.

In an interview with newsmen on Friday, the cleric said the bandits been ‘forced’ into criminality due to government neglect and lack of political will.

Gumi added that the government to grant amnesty to bandits just like it did to Niger Delta militants.

10. Femi Fani-Kayode Slams Those Trying To Rationalize The Murder Of Nigerian Billionaire, Usifo Ataga

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed those rationalizing the death of Nigerian Billionaire, Usifo Ataga who was gruesomely murdered by his young side chic

Naija News recalls that Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, and a director in Super Network was gruesomely murdered by his side chic, a 21-year-old student of the Unilag on June 12th.

According to viral reports, he was found dead with multiple stabs in his neck, chest and thigh with a whooping sum of 5 million withdrawn from his account.

Reacting to the circumstances that led to Ataga’s death, Femi Kayode said that sleeping with a 21-year-old in a hotel does not mean he deserved to be butchered.
