N322m Fraud: EFCC To Appeal Nwaoboshi’s Victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has described the defection of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi as a welcome development.

The APC in a statement on Saturday by the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Prophet Jones Erue said the Delta North Senator was bold enough to leave the tyrannical leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News recalls the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, on Friday presented Nawaoboshi to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

The APC caretaker chairman warmly welcomed the lawmaker and briefed the President on how they have managed the affairs of the party in the past year, Naija News recalls.

Nwaoboshi who was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2019 general elections chairs the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.

Earlier this week, he was suspended by the Delta state chapter of the PDP for alleged anti-party activities but he described the suspension as laughable shortly before he was unveiled as a member of APC.

Reacting to the defection of Nwaoboshi from the PDP to APC, Erue in a statement on Saturday welcomed the lawmaker to APC with open arms.

He described Nwaoboshi as a courageous, upright, and dogged political tactician who “speaks truth to power” and stands firm in the defence of democracy in the face of intimidation by anti-democratic forces.

He said, “Sen. Nwaoboshi’s defection from the tyrannical PDP to the Progressives APC family is an attestation to the transformation initiatives of the current APC-led administration’s impacts on the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vowed to challenge the victory of Delta North Senator, Peter Nwaoboshi, in the Court of Appeal.

Naija News reports that Nwaoboshi was recently discharged and acquitted of alleged fraud to the tune of N322m on June 18, 2020.

Recall that in 2018, Nwaoboshi was arraigned by the EFCC before a Federal High Court in Lagos for N322m fraud involving two of his companies.

Nwaoboshi and the two companies – Golden Touch Construction Project Limited and Suiming Electrical Ltd – were arraigned for acquiring a property, Guinea House, on Marine Road, Apapa, Lagos for N805m. The EFCC alleged that N322m out of the N805m was part of the proceeds of fraud.

However, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke said the EFCC relied on hearsay as evidence.
