Village Head, Wife Kidnapped By Gunmen In Ibadan

At late night yesterday, some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, whisked away a village head and his wife in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Reports reaching Naija News at this time confirmed that the assailants stormed Araromi village in Bakatari area of Ibadan Tuesday night, and took Baale of Araromi village, Chief Tafa Apanpa and his wife away.

A source from the community told newsmen that the abduction of the village head and his wife occurred during the rain that was experienced in some parts of the state capital last night.

Narrating further on the abduction, the sources on Wednesday (today) said that the whereabouts of the duo is still unknown as at the time of filing this report.

Naija News understands that Bakatari is one of the towns in Ido local government area of Ibadan is located along the Ibadan-Abeokuta Road. It is a border town between Oyo and Ogun states.

When asked about the incident, a resident of the area who pleaded not to be named said, “It is true.

“The Baale has been kidnapped.” Mr Adewale Osifeso, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, has also confirmed the incident.

Osifeso told DAILY POST reporters that efforts have been put in place to secure the release of the victims.

He said: “The incident happened very late on Tuesday, 22nd of June, 2021at ARARO village.

“Efforts are in top gear to rescue both victims and as well apprehend the abductors, please.”

Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has revealed new methods adopted by criminal groups to get their victims.
A statement signed and made available to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Asp Lawan Shiisu Adam, revealed that kidnappers now disguised as security personnel sent to arrest the victim from their office.
