Presidency Confirms Ambassadorial Postings For 3 Other Ex-service Chiefs

The presidency has confirmed the ambassadorial posting of three other former service chiefs based on approval from President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari’s personal assistant on social media, Bashir Ahmad in a Facebook post on Wednesday, noted that the former military chiefs were deployed to Nigeria’s neighbouring countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Naija News had reported that a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has been appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic.

Also, the former Defence Chief, Gen Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (rtd), was appointed as the head of mission to Cameroon.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, presented letters of credence to the ex-service chiefs at a brief ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday.

This was disclosed in a statement by Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, information officer in the ministry.

However, the statement was silent on the posting of the other former Service chiefs, Vice Admiral Ibok- Ette Ibas (retired) former Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retired), ex-Chief of Air Staff and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd), former Chief of Defense Intelligence.

On Wednesday, Ahmad gave an updated list in a post tagged “Ambassadorial Postings by President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigeria’s neighboring countries.”

He listed the new ambassadors and their countries of posting as:

• Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd) = Benin Republic
• Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar (Rtd) = Chad
• General Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd) = Cameroon
• Air Vice Marshal Sani Usman (Rtd) = Niger
• Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) = Ghana

Meanwhile, the 9th Senate on Wednesday passed the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N895, 842, 465, 917 for the second reading.

The budget was passed for second reading a day after the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan read President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter seeking the Red Chamber’s approval of the budget.

The supplementary budget contained funds to purchase military equipment and the COVID-19 vaccine programme.

The Senate President after the budget was passed for second reading, referred it to the Senate Committee on Appropriations, to report back on Tuesday.
