Fulanis Are Not Our Enemies But Our Security – Oluwo Of Iwo
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has said that his domain is enjoying peaceful co-existence with the Fulanis.
Naija News understands that the Southwest region of the country has been witnessing a series of attack by armed herders believed to be of the Fulani extraction.
However, reacting to a general condemnation of the herders, Oluwo of Iwo opined that the Fulanis are not enemies to the Iwo people, stressing that they help secure the community.
The traditional ruler in a statement he signed, explained how Fulanis had helped in repelling an invasion of bandits on his community.
The statement titled: ‘How Fulani Repel, Send Suspected Bandits Out of Iwoland’ reads: “Bororo men with their cattle encroached Iwo. The Seriki Fulani with his men stormed the forest to chase the Bororo whose attitude is to eat crops at night and attack farmers.
“It could be recalled that I invited the Fulanis to my palace, gave them orientation and charged them to identify the bad eggs among them.
“Since that time the leadership of the Fulanis, Seriki, has been keeping up to the responsibility of ensuring culprits are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
“In Iwoland, Fulanis are our security, not our enemies. The three local governments of Iwoland comprising Iwo, Ayedire and Ola Oluwa, enjoy a peaceful coexistence with Fulanis.”
Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has claimed that most of the bandits terrorizing Nigeria are foreigners and not Fulanis.
He stated this while speaking security agencies in Kagara, Rafi Local Government Area of the state on Monday.
This was as the governor released about 1,000 security agents to ensure the rescue of the 136 abducted students from Salihu Tanko Islamiya School in Tegina, Rafi LGA.
