Troops Kill Boko Haram Fighters Who Attempted To Attack Military Base In Borno

Some Boko Haram terrorists who attempted an attack on a military base located in Kumshe town of Borno State have been neutralized by soldiers.

It was gathered that the terrorists attempted to overrun the base on Sunday but met stiff resistance from troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) deployed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) of 152 Battalion.

The terrorists stormed the town in 4 gun trucks and several motorcycles but were dispelled by the gallant troops.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu who confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, said six of the terrorists were killed in the gunfight that ensued, many were injured while several other items were recovered from the insurgents.

According to Nwachukwu, “Troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) deployed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) of 152 Battalion, Kumshe on Sunday, 20 June 2021 gallantly dealt with elements of Boko Haram terrorists (BHTs) on a suicidal infiltration attempt into the camp.

The terrorists mounted on 4 Gun Trucks and several motorcycles attempted to infiltrate and attack the camp through the northern part of the troops’ deployment, but were met with the fierce fire of the highly alert troops, resulting in the instant killing of 6 BHTs.

The troops, who remained dogged and sustained heavy gun fire on the terrorists during the encounter, routed and forced the terrorists to flee in total disarray, leading to the capture of six AK 47 Rifles, one hand held grenade, assorted drugs and other First Aid items.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya has lauded the troops’ high level of alertness and fighting spirit, urging them to sustain the momentum and ensure that the remnants of terrorists hibernating in the area are completely cleared.

Meanwhile, the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to be insensitive to the unity and stability of the country.

PANDEF spokesman, Ken Robinson, made this known in a statement while reacting to a comment by the Executive Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Shehu.

Shehu, who had represented President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, at the launch of the Kudirat Abiola peace foundation in Kaduna, had said those calling for restructuring are ignorant of war.

He added that those calling for restructuring are very naive or even mischievously dangerous because Nigeria is a dominant force in West Africa.

But according to PANDEF, the statement made by Buhari’s representative is insensitive and callous, adding that it is just a matter of time before the country restructures itself.
