Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has revealed that one of the major projects he intends to achieve before leaving office is to build an international airport.

According to the Governor, access to transportation is key in the economic plans he has for the state and if investors can fly in directly, it will be a major boost for the state economy.

Obaseki noted that he is already in talks with relevant agencies as well as development partners on how to execute the project.

He made his plans known during a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members across wards and local government areas in the district.

Naija News understands Edo already has a local airport but the Governor said the construction of another airport will boost the economic fortunes of the state.

Obaseki added that the new airport will be built in Edo north senatorial district.

He said “There are some key projects that we want to implement in Edo North. There are major investors talking to us now and want to come into the state. We have huge opportunities in the areas of agriculture, mining and transportation,” he said.

“One of the major things that I want to do is to build an airport. Access is key, and if people can fly in directly, it will improve the economy of the state.

“We have been working on improving the transportation network in Edo state; we have done some studies and found out that an airport in Edo North is feasible, particularly given the level of investment that we are making in that direction.

“Don’t forget that there are two cement plants in the state, major universities and several other economic opportunities that are involved, and to get people there, we need an airport to make access easy. We are in discussion with the relevant authorities already.”

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State University (KASU) has announced the suspension of all undergraduate academic activities till further notice.

Naija News reports that the development was made known in a statement on Tuesday by KASU Registrar, Mr Samuel Manshop.

Manshop, however, noted that while the undergraduate lectures are put on hold, postgraduate programmes, college of medicine, faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and part-time programmes will continue with their activities.
