The Kaduna State University (KASU) has announced the suspension of all undergraduate academic activities till further notice.

Naija News reports that the development was made known in a statement on Tuesday by KASU Registrar, Mr Samuel Manshop.

Manshop, however, noted that while the undergraduate lectures are put on hold, postgraduate programmes, college of medicine, faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and part-time programmes will continue with their activities.

The registrar, however, did not disclose the reason for halting the academic activities for only undergraduate students.

The statement delivered in Kaduna earlier today, read: “The management of KASU wishes to notify staff, students and the public that academic activities for undergraduate students have been suspended indefinitely.

“Postgraduate programmes, college of medicine, faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and part-time programmes are to continue with their activities.

“Staff is also expected to report to work as usual, while management will communicate further developments,” he said.

Naija News understands that this is coming barely 24 hours after Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State dismissed 16 lecturers and 2 non-academic staff in Kaduna State University (KASU) for participating in a protest organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) in May.
Recall that the NLC embarked on two days protest in the state over the state government’s plan to sack thousands of workers.

A letter released by the institution’s management on Monday showed the names of the affected lecturers, with confirmation that salary payment to them has been stopped.
