After her controversial withdrawal from Roland Garros, Naomi Osaka has given up on the Berlin tournament on grass, which is due to start on June 14, organizers confirmed on Monday.

“We have been notified that Naomi Osaka cannot line up in Berlin. After consulting with her management, she is going to take a break,” said a spokesperson for the Berlin tournament.

Osaka, world number two, created a shock in the world of tennis by refusing last week to participate in press conferences at Roland Garros to “preserve her sanity”. Sanctioned with a fine of $ 15,000, she was also threatened with exclusion not only from the Paris tournament but also from other Grand Slam events.

Faced with this sudden rise in tension, she preferred to leave the tournament, after having explained that she had gone through “long periods of depression” since 2018.
