Bandits Storm Katsina Villages, Kill Residents

Scores Killed As Gunmen Invade Kogi Community

The villages of Kanawa and Runka located in Katsina State have been recently attacked by armed bandits who killed some of the villagers.

It was gathered that at least six people were killed during the attacks.

A resident of Kanawa village told Daily Trust that the attackers stormed their village on Saturday evening and dispersed the villagers.

According to him, the bandits stormed the villages in about 60 motorcycles, around 6:30 pm, and left with many domestic animals belonging to some brides in the villages.

“When we heard the roar of their motorcycles, we all dispersed into the bush but they chased some of us and gunned down six and injured others.

“As I speak with you now (Sunday morning), we have just finished the burial of the six persons killed; three sustained serious injuries.

“One is receiving medical care in Katsina and the others at Danmusa hospital,” he said.

The incident was also confirmed by the Katsina police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who noted that the attack was a reprisal by one Mani Doro whose boy was killed by the Kanawa residents.

Meanwhile, one of the school children kidnapped by bandits from the Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Tegina, Niger State about a week ago has reportedly died in the custody of the abductors.

Reports have it that the lifeless body of the three-year-old child was discovered a few kilometers from Tegina town.

The father of one of the abducted students, Tanko Zegi, confirmed the death of the child but the cause of death remains unknown.
