1. Those Who Want To Destroy My Govt’ll Be Shocked —Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, said individuals after his administration will be shocked as his government will do everything in its power to make sure that they fail.

Buhari stated this after meeting with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu; and other electoral commissioners over the recent attacks on the commission’s facilities.

Unknown armed men have razed not less than eleven offices of the commission, thirteen vehicles, four hundred and twenty-nine generators, others in over forty-one attacks in the last few months.

The Chairman of INEC described the situation as a national emergency which some prominent Nigerians have said might affect the 2023 general elections if not curtailed.

2. Obaseki Rejects Oshiomhole, Ize-Iyamu Appeal Messages

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has rejected Adams Oshiomhole and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu congratulatory messages.

Recall that the Supreme Court in a ruling last Friday had affirmed Obaseki as the duly elected Governor of the state.

In separate congratulatory messages, Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu have both appealed to the Edo State Governor to be magnanimous in victory.

Reacting while addressing a large gathering on Tuesday as part of the celebration to mark his victory, Obaseki said if the opposition party leaders were serious about their congratulatory letter, they would have printed it on a letterhead paper with a signature rather than posting it on the internet.

He stated that Edo will never fall for such cheap messages called congratulatory letters, adding that they are not serious.

3. Why The 1999 Constitution Must Be Amended – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has declared that the 1999 constitution of Nigeria must be amended because it was hurriedly put together.

He argued that the constitution falls below acceptable standards and described it as “the product of a hurried national compromise” just to ensure the military returned to the barracks.

Gbajabiamila who spoke on Tuesday in Lagos at the zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution added that a better constitution that represents the interest and yearnings of the Nigerian people is what is needed to confront the challenges facing the country.

Though he agreed that the task of constitutional amendment won’t be easy, the Speaker said it is a task that must be done to make Nigeria better.

4. Buhari, Fulani Leaders Contributed To Herdsmen Killings – Benue Govt

The Benue State Government has claimed that the body language of President Muhammadu Buhari and other Fulani leaders has contributed to the killings by herders in Nigeria.

Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, made the claim on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily.

He noted that Fulani leaders need to speak up against the attacks by herders on communities, saying that one word from the President to killer herders will end the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians.

Abounu added that some drastic steps need to be taken to put an end to killings by some herders, calling on all Fulani leaders to speak out on the matter.

5. Akeredolu Demands Scrapping Of Senate, Return To 1963 Constitution

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, on Tuesday, advocated the scrapping of the Senate with each zones having an equal number of four representatives at the National Assembly.

Akeredolu made this disclosure at the Akure Centre of the Southwest Zonal Public Hearing, organised by the House of Representatives Special Committee on Constitution Review.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said that the country should adopt a unicameral legislature and jettison the current bicameral structure.

Akeredolu advocated for the creation of state police, resource control, judicial reforms, especially with zones having their court of appeals.

6. NANS Declares June 12 For Protest Over Insecurity

The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed its dissatisfaction over the incessant killings and destruction of properties ongoing in the country.

The student association in a statement issued by its national president, Sunday Asefon, on Tuesday, said it will troop out en masse come June 12 to protest over the disturbing occurrences.

Recall that June 12 was meant to be Nigeria’s Democracy Day in commemoration of the election victory of late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

However, lamenting the state of the nation, Asefon, who bemoaned the kidnap of over 200 students of Islamiyya School in the Rafi Council area of Niger State, said NANS had relocated its national headquarters to the North Central State pending when the students would be released.

7. Buhari’s Legacy Would Outlive Him For Many Generations – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has declared that no administration has done so much for Nigerians like the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that the achievements of President Buhari would outlive many generations to come and would always be remembered by Nigerians.

The Minister made the submission on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking to newsmen about the second anniversary of the second term of the Buhari administration.

According to him, Buhari has done so much for Nigerians despite the global economic challenges and paucity of resources.

Mohammed specifically referred to infrastructural projects like roads, rails, bridges, mass housing, port development, which he said will define the legacy of his principal’s administration.

8. How NECO Registrar, Prof Godswill Obioma Died

The Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma has been confirmed dead.

Some early reports about the NECO Registrar’s death have it that gunmen stormed his residence in Minna, Niger State on Monday night, killed him, and left without taking any item.

However, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has denied media reports that its Registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma, was killed by unknown gunmen in Minna, Niger State.

In a statement on Tuesday, Director, Human resources of NECO, Abdul Mustapha, denied reports that Obioma was assassinated.

Mustapha added that Obioma died in his sleep as a result of heart failure and not killed by unknown gunmen,

Also, the Niger State Police Command, on Monday noted that the report that the Registrar of the National Examination Council, Prof. Godswill Obioma was assassinated by unknown gunmen in Minna is untrue.

The command disclosed that his family had formally announced that he passed on after a brief illness at the National Hospital in Abuja.

9. Buhari Asks Senate To Confirm Major General Yahaya As New COAS

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya, as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Naija News reports that Buhari, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give his request, expeditiously.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter of request at plenary on Tuesday morning.

10. Kingsley Moghalu Declares 2023 Presidential Ambition

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, has declared his intention to contest for the nation’s presidency in 2023.

Naija News reports that the former United Nations official declared his intention in a post on his Twitter handle.

Moghalu, who is an economist, lamented that only Nigerian elites benefit from politics in Nigeria.

He stated that if elected in 2023 he would run a government with a dream team of highly competent Nigerians from all parts of our country.
