The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has lashed out at those criticizing the actions taken by President Muhammadu Buhari to address insecurity in the southern region of the country.

Taking a swipe at leaders from the southern region of the country, Keyamo accused them of keeping quiet and disappearing when insecurity ravaged their region.

The Minister made the submission in a reaction to attacks on a statement by President Buhari on Tuesday after he received a briefing from the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on the series of attacks on the commission’s facilities across the country.

It will be recalled the President had said: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

He added that those behind attacks on public infrastructures will be shocked.

The president’s statement attracted lots of reactions with many accusing Buhari of treating herdsmen with kids gloves but threatening war in the south.

In his own view, Keyamo said those criticizing the president’s position have no moral right to do so.

“I hope some elites who couldn’t find their voices to rein in their wards when their region burnt, will not suddenly find their voices against Mr. President! Those who screamed that it’s Mr. The President’s duty to maintain law & order should NOT try to teach him how to do his job now.”

“The anger some are displaying against the President’s resolve to be decisive in dealing with these scoundrels is an indication of their support for the destruction of public infrastructure because they want to cripple Govt. A pure case of cutting your nose to spite your face!

“A very unfortunate reasoning you read is that because insurgency is still prevalent in some other parts of the country, the President should just allow some villains destroy another region. It’s like a competition to bring the insecurity in one region at par with other regions!

“The President has vowed to deal with the scoundrels destroying public infrastructure & killing people to instigate insurrection & some dimwits really interpret this to mean he is threatening INNOCENT citizens! This reasoning is so ABSURD that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry,” Keyamo said in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a former presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to invite Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho for dialogue to douse the tension in the Southern region of the country.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s programme on Wednesday, Moghalu urged the President to dialogue with secessionists and address the root causes of their agitations.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) believes the leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Ilana Omo Yoruba feel marginalised and are seeking justice.
