Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has rejected Adams Oshiomhole and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu congratulatory messages.

Recall that the Supreme Court in a ruling last Friday had affirmed Obaseki as the duly elected Governor of the state.

In separate congratulatory messages, Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu have both appealed to the Edo State Governor to be magnanimous in victory.

On his part, Oshiomhole in his letter to Obaseki as made available to newsmen in Benin on Monday by his media aide Victor Oshioke, appealed to the Governor to put the past behind him.

Describing Obaseki as a brother from another mother, Oshiomhole while congratulating the Governor on his Supreme Court victory, urged him to consider their past relationship and believe God has a reason for everything.

Ize-Iyamu, also appealed to Governor Obaseki to use his office to find an out-of-court settlement for the issue of the 14 lawmakers-elect in the state who failed to present themselves for the inauguration.

He also begged the Governor to be merciful on some elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice-chairmen, Councilors, and Supervisory Councillors who were removed from office some time ago.

He pleaded with Obaseki to pay their entitlements.

Reacting while addressing a large gathering on Tuesday as part of the celebration to mark his victory, Obaseki said if the opposition party leaders were serious about their congratulatory letter, they would have printed it on a letterhead paper with a signature rather than posting it on the internet.

He stated that Edo will never fall for such cheap messages called congratulatory letters, adding that they are not serious.

“na today, na today we do election, na today we win?” Obaseki asked the crowd.

“The APC in Abuja is being run just like what they did in Edo when they were in power in Edo State. There is a problem in Nigeria,” he added.

“The country has money but until we change our mind set that taxpayers money must be used to work for the people and not for very few. We have to pray that what happened in Edo will happen in Abuja.

‘’The only party that has the right people for the job is the People Democratic Party (PDP) come 2023. Forward ever, backward never.”
